I design the surfaces people use when a model, a policy, and a person have to agree.
Fraud, payments, and trust decision systems. Ten years in product design, most recently leading work on Kount, Equifax's fraud platform, on interfaces that reviewed more than a million transactions a day.
The work
Risk products fail in a specific way. The model can be right and the reviewer still cannot defend the decision. The policy can be sound and still unpublished because the editor is a production risk. The network can set a floor and the bank reviewing the payment still cannot tell whose rule fired.
That is the work I want. I led product design on payments fraud, chargebacks, account protection, authorized payment protection, and the Policy Management surface on Kount 360, including the original information architecture for that platform. I sit with data science on what a score is allowed to reveal, and with engineering on what a configuration surface is allowed to publish into live traffic.
I also ship the interface in code when that is the fastest way to prove the argument. The trust score explainer exists as a React and Storybook kit, not only as a writeup.
Why this work
I came to design sideways. Four and a half years in a biochemistry lab, cognitive science with an HCI focus at UC San Diego, then a Master of Engineering in Product Design and Development Management at Northwestern.
The lab is the part that still shows up. Bench science teaches you that the hard part of a problem is usually the measurement, not the answer, and that a result you cannot explain is not a result yet. Fraud tooling is the same job in a different building.
How I work
In these products the interface is downstream of a model, a policy, and a regulator. None of those are negotiable from Figma. I spend longer than most designers on what the system actually does, then design the smallest surface that makes origin, authority, and next action legible.
I speak Spanish. On authorized payment protection that put me in the stakeholder room with a Latin American payment network instead of reading the meeting afterward.
